Weekend-ing 38 (A Week Late)

Weekending is coming back for a roaring return! Weee! Last week was supposed to be the re-launch, but … last week exploded. So today this is from not last weekend, but the weekend before. Before we elected a bigot and just an overall TERRIBLE PERSON to be our leader. [insert sardonic smiley face here]

I thought that November would be more chill for us after the whirlwind of October, but turns out – NOPE. Last weekend we went to our family friend’s birthday party at the local indoor play space!

weekending-38-124Hank turned four! We are now going to 4-year-old birthday parties. When did all of the babies grow up?

Gabe was initially terrified, as is his hesitant-kid-way. But then quickly got into the fun of shooting nerf balls at other kids across a moat.

There was also cake. The true star of the show.

On Sunday we went to the Space Needle, via the Monorail – which Gabe asks to go on every day. Every single day.

(Gabe calls the Space Needle “Seattle” so we get a lot of “MAMA LOOK SEATTLE!” whenever we are driving around.)

We have also been doing our best to be weekend warriors in yard work over at the house. Though we are equipped with very few yard work tools, we are doing our best. We bought a push broom and a very fancy rake. And have been trying to tackle the fall offerings of tree mess that is all over our drive away and backyard before it all goes to complete shit.

I know we haven’t been awesome at showing you the “finished” product from our long and involved and much-moaned about house hunt. BUT WE WILL. For now, enjoy these scenes from our backyard.

Gabe was napping so miss Fae got to wander about uninterrupted and actually help pick up leaves and sweep without her brother mowing her over.

I live for these weekends. Even when I am so tired. Even when the world is darker and wetter and colder now. Even my little goobers skip naps and make me want to abandon them at a fire house.

  1. Looks like a great weekend. Was it the metaphorical oxygen mask of taking care of yourself first that my weekend was for me? I sure hope so.

  2. Ugh, yard work. I’m so glad we have a yard now, but I have to say we’re not doing much to it. I raked the driveway at least so that people can see where the edges are. (It’s a long, winding driveway.) But, right now with my husband being gone at work and me being by myself with two toddlers (and, uh, pregnant again, surprise!) I’m not doing much extra. We’re on 2.3 acres, about half of it wooded, so we have a lot of leaves, but at least part of it doesn’t have to be maintained as much. Husband can take care of the leaves on the lawn when he gets home.

      1. The baby is both exciting and terrifying. I’m already outnumbered, how am I supposed to take care of three! At least now I still have enough hands.

Nature really will reclaim everything. I hope you have no blackberries. As delicious as the berries are, the vines are a pain. (And ours didn’t even produce much this year.)

        1. WE HAVE BLACKBERRIES! They creep over our fence from the green strip behind our house. And my mom actually helped us hack them back late this summer. I know they will be a constant issue.

And we go back and forth on a third constantly. I was pretty gung-ho about it but now we are going to revisit in a few years. I’ve always wanted a surprise pregnancy but also that would totally upend my life.

          1. I wish you luck in keeping up with the blackberries. We were planning on waiting a couple of years until first is in kindergarten and second is in preschool, but oops! Oh well. While I resented the pregnancy (not the baby, per-se) at first, we just have to get through the next couple of years and then things will get a little easier. And this way, instead of starting over with a newborn in a couple of years (I’m using that phrase a lot), I can look forward to possible full nights of sleep! We are definitely not having any more after this, though.
