The Long Weekend-ing

This weekend we took Friday off and spent the morning packing, doing laundry, Kamel worked unexpectedly, and after the baby’s nap we headed north to Canada for Kamel’s birthday. I found a sale on the 4 Seasons (Kamel’s favorite hotel chain) and we spent 2 nights and 3 days-ish exploring, swimming, and robe-wearing. This was Kamel’s first time ever in Canada! And Vancouver is so much cooler than I ever remember it being.

Here is the breakdown of events:

  • The drive to Vancouver was supposed to be about 2.5 hours, but due to a stop at Target and massive traffic ended up taking 4.5.
  • About 1.5 hours from the hotel the baby started fussing and then crying hysterically because road trips with small children are awesome.
  • The first morning we wandered around looking for breakfast and found ourselves at Harbour Green Park where Gabe played in the fountain and we watched the sea planes taking off and landing.
  • I had a huge pimple on my face the entire weekend. I popped it twice.
  • Later that day we checked out the award winning Aquarium! (Shedd is still my favorite.) While waiting for the Beluga Whale Show to start we were standing in the back with a fairly decent view without being in the seating area when 2 tall older teenage girls came and pushed themselves right in front of us at the last minute before the show really started. I really did want to kill them. So we left.
  • The next day the baby (by some magic spell) slept in until 9am! So we ordered breakfast in and went swimming until nap time.
  • After that we went to Queen Elizabeth park where Gabe obsessed over the fountain and got completely drenched. It was really hot at the park but we ooed and awwed at the views and then headed home.
  • Where an hour before we got there the baby started crying because road trips with small children are awesome.

  1. Ahh this is so amazing! I was telling Mark how jealous I am that you stayed at a Four Seasons πŸ™‚ We strolled by the one in Istanbul which looked amazing (it’s a historic building) . Weekend road trips are the absolute best. All the jelly-fish too, so beautiful, you can stare at them for hours and hours! And now I want some eggs benedict!

  2. Lauren I laughed so hard at the photo of gabe having a tantrum in the car- Josh said “you’re so mean!!” I laugh because I’m sure there was nothing for you to do but do that! You guys are a beautiful family!! Xoxo

  3. I love this! And like Amanda, I am also jealous that you guys stay in gorgeous hotels so often! It makes me feel like maybe I need to get a real job and cut it out with this couch-surfing business! πŸ™‚

    1. We do air-bnb and travel on the cheap as much as possible so that we can do these mini little luxuries! Even though it is just 1-2 nights it is so lovely to feel fancy for a hot second. And for Vancouver I got a 30% off sale! It can be more accessible than you think. πŸ˜‰

Plus! If you ever travel with kids the Four Seasons is the BEST. They give you a real crip with real linens and all the baby bath stuff you’d need PLUS a diaper pale in the bathroom and even a step stool to the sink! Gabe gets the best sleep there. Even better than at home!

  4. I also now want to “travel fancy” sometimes! Those digs look so nice! Also, Vancouver is high on my list of places I wanna go. Very cool!

  5. Baby Gabe in a robe: I’m dying from cute.

Just out of curiosity, is the yellow stuff in the white dish with your eggs a Hollandaise sauce? If so, holey moley – so yellow, so much sauce!

I really love the way you guys travel and adventure together. I’m inspired to try this with our little family of three. My bank account doesn’t thank you (but I do).

  6. Long weekend vacations/trips are the best! Just enough time to relax and explore and come back refreshed without taking too much time away. Looks like a great time. Also, Gabe in robe + Gabe with headphones on = too adorable.

  7. We weer in Vancouver at the beginning of the month!! It was truely beautiful, but pouring for us the whole time. And holy crap, yes, the traffic. Terrible. (and I’m from LA). One word: bridges. Anyways, we still loved the visit, and our favorite part was going to Steamworks!! πŸ™‚
