Weekend-ing

Our downstairs neighbors are constantly grilling on their giant patio that is bigger than our living room. My weekends are filled with patio lust as I look down on them from up above, smell their grilling deliciousness, creepily watch them read out on their patio furniture while I am dying of heatstroke and standing naked in front of fans.

This weekend I got to play dress up and go be a grown up with a bunch of ladies on Saturday night for Kathleen’s two-parter birthday extravaganza! I felt like the lamest dressed person there, everyone looked so put together and fabulous, but the conversation was amazing and it was just so lovely to sit at a table without having my brain be halfway listening while the other half is making sure Gabe doesn’t stab his eye out with reachable silverware. Ahh the small things.

Then I also got to mom it up at the aquarium with my parents on Sunday, so it was the best of both worlds. We finally got an umbrella stroller from babiesRus (so cheap! so amazing!) and we were rocking it. Gabe looked exceptionally cute sitting in his little stroller, knees together, in his elmo overalls. Be still my baby making heart.

Where did your weekend take you?

  1. I also had a best-of-all-worlds weekend: a date night with my husband to my favorite local festival (huge, seven-stage Irish festival with all different kinds of Irish music, which I loooove), a party in the neighborhood, an entire day spent finally getting our ridiculously weed-filled yard under control (we just moved 3 months ago and have been ignoring it while getting settled inside and being busy with summer travels), and then finished the weekend by having a few friends over for smoked ribs and other yummies last night.

Gabe’s overalls (SHORTALLS, no less) are just too cute!

  2. Not sure what I’m most jealous of: Your awesome aquarium, those delicious-looking donuts, or all the wine glasses on the table during your night out.

Oh wait, I know exactly which I’m most jealous of.

Our weekend of hosting lots of friends and family kept us (exhaustingly) home, but we’re hoping for some fun adventures next weekend!

  3. I am really glad I am not the only one with patio jealousy! Our downstairs neighbors have a small one, and they hardly ever use it! Sometimes I am tempted to climb down the fire escape and hang out there myself. (Also, R and I have decided that if they move out while we are still here, we’re just going to beg our landlord to let us move in there for the same rent…)

  4. What great aquarium photos!! So much wonder in all his little expressions! ps: those little knees!

My weekend had a rocky start but was FUN overall :) Friday night was a wedding that we were late to (saga, which you heard, and I won’t repeat), then a MUCH needed saturday-day of nothing. We slept late, walked to our favorite coffee shop for yummies and coffee, then we promptly got back in bed and stayed there. Then it was girls night! Those photos! We had SO much fun. And great wine and conversation! Then sunday was brunch and fremont market with L’s brother. Yummy food but too much sun for my liking, because I am a delicate sweaty sweaty flower. Dinner was half a pint of orange creamsicle old fashioned custard and some fretting about possibly getting sick and not going to enough family gatherings, and feeling guilty. So that sucked. But the custard was really everything I ever wanted in life. Yay for weekending!!

  5. I love summer! Punch drunk in love with summer! The weekend was all grilling and friends and sunshine and fresh fruit and everything great. August forever, please.

  6. Grandpa hogging the baby photos made me tear up at my desk. Damn it, Lauren.

  7. You guys all look so amazing!!! ughhhhhhhhhhhh i wish i could have been there. Guess i’ll just have to settle for kidnapping Kathleen this weekend ;)

My weekend consisted of: dinner out with friends, dodging lollapalooza goers (things that date me: walking around at 10:30 on a friday night muttering ‘damn kids… put on some clothes and shoes and stop walking in the street!’), gym, errands, wedding attendance, dodging lollapalooza goers again (wherein we stuck out like sore thumbs in our formal wear and had lots of kids drunkenly saying ‘woahhhhh you are FANCY’), then chores/work all the live-long day on Sunday accompanied by many high-fives and collapsing on the couch at 8 pm to eat lots of spaghetti.

    Weekend = pwn’d.

  8. Our weekend got off to a rough start with a sucky breakfast out (restaurant chosen for proximity to beloved playground, even though the food is meh and the service crappy. Food/service were as expected, but then the playground was closed! And locked! And we had a very unhappy camper!)

But we rallied! Frances and I went off to another playground. Then she napped (always a cause for joy) and after her nap, went to a friend’s house for a playdate, while Jami and I went out on an afternoon date and checked out two new restaurants in our neighborhood. This was our first time doing a playdate where she stayed and we left (the wonders of having a potty trained child!) and it went really well. I see more afternoon dates in our future!

Then on Sunday, we went to baseball and I got some unthrilling, but totally necessary chores done. All in all a good weekend.

I love these aquarium pictures. They make me want to do an aquarium trip soon!

  9. Wow.
    Our weekend was… different.
M worked. Pretty much all of it.
So LJ went to my parents for Saturday so I could study, which wound up being overnight (since M worked 13 hours Saturday), before we spent some family time hanging around at home in bad weather Sunday morning, then waved M off to the airport at lunchtime to go away for work (again).
Long Loooooooooong nap from LJ meant the only other thing I did was grocery shopping!

  10. We did a day trip to the snow! First time ever! Toddler didn’t get cold, wet or melt-downy! Win!

I am a writer living in Seattle and I believe that life is a grand adventure and only boring if you believe it to be. Plus! You don't need money to have fun.

I live with my husband, a photographer by education and a maker-of-video-games by trade, and a baby named gabe in an apartment on the hill.

I am romantic about most things and I cry... about almost anything. I tell stories to entertain you, I spread stories to keep you in the loop. I am not a grammar freak, but I do know how to spell it. I am exceedingly proud of my scrambled eggs and I really could eat an entire pan of cupcakes. If I met me, I would be my best friend. I tend to be irreverent.

If you would like to chat with me or see what else I'm up to you can follow me on Twitter (betterinrealife), on facebook, or email me at betterinrealife at gmail.
