I think the Duprez household had been running on empty a few weekends too many. This 3 day weekend felt like it was a long, long time coming – to the point where we had kind of worked ourselves up into a frenzy about it. Kamel and I were so desperate for THREE WHOLE DAYS and to finally sink our teeth into some home projects that we were a little bit of a mess.
I’ve said this many times before, but the worst part of marriage for me is dealing with another person. It sounds so simplistic, but I promise it isn’t. It’s actually really complicated. Because people are complicated and sometimes Kamel and I don’t sync up, sometimes his bullshit or my bullshit spills into each other’s play pen. I don’t really notice it when I am the culprit, but wow do I notice it when it is him.
Marriage is hard. There aren’t enough 3-day weekends. Gabe has entered into a difficult stage of tantrums and everything-is-a-battle-just-kill-me-now-ness. We aren’t getting enough self-care time, we aren’t getting enough quiet time, we aren’t getting enough time, period.
All that being said, the weekend felt like it was 6 days long. I don’t know how that happened. And it was also incredibly restorative. It’s just that I’m hungry for more restoration – At what point will it be enough? Who knows. But I am grateful for the taste, that’s for sure.
Taking my first pair of shorts in yearrsss (That go above my knee?) out for a spin.
First time at the wading pool was met with some trepidation. He stood in that spot for a solid 10 minutes asking to be picked up until he finally splashed around and played.
Mom-ing it up hardcore.
Lots of soccer happened this weekend!
And we bought our first nice item for our bedroom. Thank you amazing deal at West Elm!
Second haircut. First haircut was a breeze! So this one will be cake, right?
If by Cake you mean Trial By Fire, then yes. Just like that.
Sunday brunching! (Sorry I cropped you out of the photo Kamel!)
(Weird hair line noticeable on baby from frantic flailing the day before.)
We switch out the Insta-wall every 6 months. It was time for a refresh.
(Before on the left, after on the right.)
This kid turns 23 tomorrow. Apparently.
And then we ended the weekend sweaty and zoned out. Most of us did have shirts on, though, except for this lunatic. It was a hot, glorious, beautiful, frustrating, productive, too short, shockingly long, ending too soon 3-day weekend. It was summer personified. Target trips, wading pools, dining al fresco with old co workers, brunch with best friends, the whole shebang.
