The Apartment Hunt: Finale

Finally. We have signed a lease. It is done. We haven’t moved – yet – that comes mid August, but I can have my weekends and evenings back, my stress level is settling to it’s normal “high strung” levels, and I am no longer crunching every number under the sun.

We found a place just a few blocks away from where we live now. Perk!

It officially has 2 bedrooms. A must have!

It has lots of light. Woo hoo!

It is still relatively small (850 sq feet). Oh well.

The kitchen is old-ish and small. Meh. But! Not quite as small as ours is now! Woo!

Goodbye amazing stainless steel countertops…. hello gas stove. Hello dishwasher!

We have more closet space because the baby doesn’t need a closet – and yet his bedroom has one anyway!

And the absolute best best best part? Remember all of those yuck 2-bedrooms that were all 2000 and above? This apartment is coming in at 1795/month! That is almost 100 dollars less than what we would be paying if we stayed exactly where we are, in our 650 sq foot 1 bedroom.

I think that deserves toasts of champagne and a few fuck yeas and boo-yahs.

And you know… it may not be the greatest apartment in the world, but it sure doesn’t suck! It has some upgrades from what we have now (hello SECOND bedroom!)… it has a few downgrades (goodbye double paned windows!), but in the end we got something that we could absolutely afford. This means we can still travel to see family and friends, eat out once in a while, buy a new pair of pants now and again, all the normal things that happen when rent, loans and daycare aren’t literally taking up every single last penny you have.

I can’t wait to show you the finished set up after we move in. The best part of moving: A clean slate.

  1. Oh! Yeah!!! I am so absolutely happy for you guys! Your new kitchen is fully tiled, so that should be easy to clean. And gas stoves, for me, are the best, you can regulate heat better in my opinion.
Also, nice floors! All that space, and all the light 🙂 And within your budget. I will definitely celebrate for you guys tonight 🙂 Yaaaay. (Also our apartment is roughly the same size, 80 m2, and I find it spacious…). So so so happy for you! And because it’s Switzerland’s independence day, you should go on and eat all the cheese to celebrate!

  2. Yayayayaya! Especially for LIGHT and GAS STOVES! It is a sweet little home, and I’m so happy for ya’ll! 🙂

  3. Congratulations guys! A little luck and a lot of research and weekend huntings payed off. I’m very happy for you and now we can send more cute outfits for Gabe knowing he’s got his own closet! Hahahaha

  4. Yay! I hate moving and believe that it is the worst… but that blank slate does look like fun! 🙂 I’m so happy you found something that will work for you. Hooray!

  5. Our house falls in the category of something that we can absolutely afford – and even though we are going from 7 closets to 2, and we are losing some real perks (like central air in the bathrooms) and our new living room is half the size as our current one, I find that I’m so much less stressed out now that we’ve found something that is absolutely affordable. Plus, look at you with your dishwasher! Fancypants. That is a very nice apartment – and no place is perfect – so congrats!

  6. EFFF YEAAHH! BOOO-YAAAHH!!! Aahhh im so so so happy for you guys, and also selfishly happy that you are staying put for another YEAR!! HOLLAHH!!!! So glad the apt. hunting stress is done and behind you. Let us know when Chamanda-DuPrez Wall Hanging Party 2.0 is happening and we will BE THERE. Champagne in hand <3

  7. Yay! Congratulations! You’ve found your hidden gem after all! The apartment looks great, I love those floors and how sunny it is. And our condo is smaller than your apartment, so I don’t think your place is that small (I suppose it’s all relative). The craziest part to me is that you will be paying less for a bigger 2 bedroom than you would for your current 1 bedroom!

  8. I am so happy y’all finally found a place! There are a lot of perks here, number one being it’s actually affordable. I hope you guys are happy and have fun decorating your new space (after all the chaos of moving in).

  9. Ooh! Congrats!

I have to second (third, fourth) the comments on the floors. They give such a warm sheen. And the place looks lovely and light. I hope you will enjoy living there and making it a home.

By the way.. That price sounds like a miracle to me!

  10. It sounds like you’re getting some great upgrades, without giving up too much in return. And those floors are lovely! Staying in the same neighbourhood can also be a HUGE relief, just because you know exactly what you’re getting, and because some of the other neighbourhoods were so concerning. Can’t wait to see what you two do with the space.

  11. Hooray! Yay for getting to stay in your neighborhood, and for LESS money! The first thing I noticed is all that awesome natural light spilling onto those nice wood floors, and two thumbs up to a gas stove. Best of luck with the move!

  12. Yay!!! I’m so happy for you guys. I knew you’d find something reasonable. Can’t wait to see the ‘after’ pictures once you move in and decorate. And Gabe gets his own room!!! That’s the best part.
