Steak and Wine

Last Thursday I had my once a year massive craving for steak. I mean, it was all I could think about, and I was starving. I also knew that if I didn’t get it, I would be mad disappointed. You know that feeling when you’re fully aware that there will be an irrational response to not getting your way, no matter how ridiculous and trivial the issue may be? Well, that was me and steak. Gimme.

And now I’m going to tangent – this post reminds of all of those people who scoff at blogging and twitter. People who say, “It’s all ‘I’m going here,’ ‘I’m going there,’ ‘I ate this’, ‘I ate that.’ No one gives a shit!” And here I am talking about dinner. Well, maybe a picture will make it better:

It’s amazing how a nice table with a good view, and some quality, well cooked food can do wonders to a date night. Especially when our impromptu date nights usually involve an Olive Garden and one of those vibrating pagers while we wait for a table.

And when we sat down I spied something extra awesome. A couple, hangin’ out, havin’ some dinner… chillin’… after their … wedding?

(Thank you, Kamel, for the stealth photography. And to the bride, I apologize for the mid-chew photo.)

There was a couple sitting directly off my right, fresh from their nuptials, gnashing on some dinner and a fab view. Talk about magical. Dinner for two, no pomp, a bottle of champagne, and a quiet corner all to themselves. I couldn’t stop shooting them glances like a huge nerd. I wanted to send them drinks, flowers, I wanted to rain confetti down over them, I wanted to whisper congratulations. But I didn’t. I had Kamel take sneaky photographs instead. Did they elope? Did they have a big day-time wedding and then sneak off after the reception to dine alone, not bothering to change out of the finery? I’ll never know. But, way to keep the party going! And thank you for allowing the rest of us to crash your party for two, and a feel a spark of the wedding magic. Date night for the win.

  1. I just love this! It’s making me want to have a big afternoon wedding and then go to fancy dinner alone afterward.

(Also – glad you got your steak, which looked delicious! As a once-a-year steak craver myself, I know just how much you needed it.)

  2. Awww this is adorable! It makes me wonder if they made a reservation online and put in the “notes” section that they were coming straight there from their wedding! Haha, I hope they got free cake or something!

    1. I don’t think so. She had full on wind-blown wedding hair and a full wedding dress. But if people get dressed up in their wedding finery for their anniversaries I want to know about it!! haha

  3. We totally did this! Well … kind of.

We had the afternoon wedding, followed by intense hunger, a couple hours later. So, we headed out to our favorite local sports pub (also the site of one of our first dates) for HUGE portions, and tasty tasty beers. (This place has 100+ on tap. I’m taking you guys there in May.) Oh, and the peanut shells on the floor.

I totally should have worn my dress!

  4. That’s awesome. Makes me think that my husband and I should throw on our wedding gear on our first anniversary and hit up a nice restaurant. I had a short dress and he wore a nice suit. It could work!

  5. I’d love to hear the story behind that “wedding dinner”!
“Honey, what do you say if instead of…”

My wife would have totally asked them, you know she would’ve!

  6. Mmmm, steaaaaaak. I had no idea my once a year steak craving was normal. I think it’s time for me to cash in on this – it has been tooo long.

And holy bad-ass bride, batman. I’m glad you posted it!

  7. This is going to be us! We’re getting married in the afternoon and the reception ends at 7 p.m. After that we’ll be heading to our hotel to check in and then off to dinner, just the two of us, at a restaurant downtown. Yes, I will probably wear my dress, which is large and definitely bridal – I do not care, it is fabulous and deserves more hours of wearing. I was also a weird theater kid who used to go out after shows in my hair/makeup/costume, so this is nothing new for me. I loooovveeee this post.

  8. awww that’s amazingggg! I probably would have done the same thing you did, take some stealth photos and think of all the things I’d like to say, or send over to their table, but not do any of those things. and then later I would kick myself for not saying anything.

also mmm steak. I too get a craving about once a year. I’ve been saying since we got married that we need to have a porterhouse steak night.. I don’t even know what a porterhouse steak is exactly, but I want one in my porter house.
